A haven for those of us drawn to the sea, Cape Cod brims with nautical charm like no other. Massachusetts’ hook-shaped peninsula will charm you every single time you visit. Its abundance of charming towns and sandy, pitch-pine-dotted landscapes make it the perfect destination for a laid-back coastal getaway.

Nothing beats Cape Cod beaches or Cape Cod lighthouses. Though it’s only an hour outside of Boston, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported miles away from the city and into a quintessential beach town.

To help you experience all the nautical adventures that this beach town has to offer, I’ve partnered with Hotels.com to compile this guide of the top places to stay, eat, and play in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

STAY

Every town in Cape Cod has an array of idyllic vacation rentals, bed-and-breakfasts, and boutique lodging options. Here are some of my favourites!

AWOL Hotel

Located at the very tip of the Cape and set against this beach town’s iconic moors, this newly renovated 30-room Provincetown inn is one of the most stunning hotels in Cape Cod. The luxurious guestrooms have polished concrete floors, straw light fixtures, and natural fabrics. Each room comes with its own private outdoor space and premium bath ammenities. Outside, there’s a pool, three fire pits, and an open-air bar.

Eben House

Eben House is one of Provincetown’s premier boutique hotels and harbours a whole lot of history. The building is one of only three colonial-era brick houses in town. Today, the rooms inside its circa 1776 walls have been modernized with chic, crisp beachside decor. Outside, a saltwater pool gives guests the opportunity to lay back and soak up the Cape Cod sunshine.

The Coonamessett

The newly renovated Coonamessett brings modern coastal comfort to the town of Falmouth. This property is a popular wedding venue, thanks to its large event spaces and proximity to the beach. The hotel has 29 stylish guest rooms and amenities perfect for a relaxing coastal getaway, including several hammocks on the lawn for lounging. For casual beachgoers, the property lends beach bags, chairs, umbrellas, and Solé beach bikes to guests.

EAT

The Canteen

The Canteen is a beachy counter-service spot along Commercial Street in Provincetown offering laid-back beat eats. The Canteen is a Provincetown institution, adores by locals and tourists alike. After grabbing a lobster roll or tasty homemade flatbread, be sure to check out their gorgeous waterfront patio overlooking Cape Cod Bay.

C Salt Wine Bar & Grille

C Salt Wine Bar & Grille is a comfortable, trendy, Cape Cod restaurant and wine bar, blending American Cuisine with French and Asian influences. The award-winning restaurant also has a cozy outdoor patio that remains a favourite among locals and tourists alike.

Brewster’s Fish House

Brewster Fish House dazzles guests with a contemporary menu full of top-tier seafood dishes. Located inside a quaint cottage in Brewster, the restaurant draws crowds from near and far with its famous lobster bisque and its fresh takes on old classics.

PLAY

Highland Lighthouse

Climbing to the top of a lighthouse is an absolute must when visiting Cape Cod. Perched on the coast of Truro, Highland Lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington and erected in 1797 as the 20th light station in the newly formed United States. Visitors can mount all 69 twisting and turning steps to the top for sweeping views of the ocean.

Shopping on Commercial Street

Commercial Street is Provincetown’s main shopping street, lined with adorable shops, boutiques, and art galleries. From Marine Specialties, a quirky surplus store, to Packard Gallery, one of the Cape’s most famous art galleries, there’s plenty to browse at a range of price points.

Cape Cod National Seashore

The great Outer Beach described by Thoreau in the 1800s is protected within the national seashore. Forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds, and uplands support diverse species. Lighthouses, cultural landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod’s past and continuing ways of life. The seashore’s visitor center in Eastham offers a comprehensive overview of the area and connects to several hiking trails. The crown jewel of hiking on the Cape, however, is the Great Island Trail, a nearly seven-mile hike along the National Seashore in Wellfleet.
